Hey friends! It’s the first week of February so you know what means…. It’s time for my monthly faves! Super excited to share what I am loving this month. If you haven’t checked out my January Favorites, I recommend taking a look at those once you finish scrolling here. Without further ado let’s get started!
The first thing I want to talk about is a full denim outfit! Denim-on-denim-on-denim is in and I’m here for it. This look is still super casual and comfy, but unique and eye-catching. In all denim, you are guaranteed to be wearing the coolest outfit on the street. Try styling your favorite pair of straight jeans, with a flattering denim crop top or even corset, layered with your staple jean jacket. This look is super versatile and not difficult at all to throw together. Don’t be afraid to mix and match your denim washes within the same outfit. It adds depth and character. Dress it up with a fun pair of neon heels, or keep it casual with your favorite street sneakers. Celebs like Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner have both been spotted sporting the Canadian Tuxedo.
Green: my color obsession of the month! I have been obsessed with featuring the striking green in my outfits, and after reviewing my recent outfit pins on Pinterest I have noticed almost all of them feature this color in some way, shape, or form. The color compliments each skin tone and can be styled to create both casual and elevated looks.
No matter the shade of green, your outfit is sure to stand out in a room full of neutrals. It can be styled to meet the laid-back look of street style or can be dressed up to help you achieve the preppy aesthetic. It’s a great versatile color, without being boring. It’s safe to say I am obsessed.
Breton hats. Wow, wow, wow. They are spunky, fun, cool, and overall just amazing. They add sass to any look. Who doesn’t want to add some personality to their outfit? The perfect way to do this is through the Breton hat, which is also more commonly known as the conductor’s hat. These hats first caught my eye, when sported by my favorite person ever, Miss Taylor Swift, on her Evermore album cover. Love, love, love. This hat can complete any look, and elevate your outfit from being seen as functional to funky in the best way possible. My favorite way to style these hats is with a comfy knit on top, a cute mini skirt on the bottom with some tights underneath, and your favorite pair of platform sneakers or booties.
Alright, let’s talk about the insect that is taking over the runway. Yes, I said insect. THE BUTTERFLY!!! Yes, yes we have all seen the sequin butterfly crop tops that have been sported by multiple celebrities including Olivia Rodrigo and Dua Lipa. I even wore one of those to a rave party, where mine snapped and I was forced to put on a t-shirt. It was amazing! But I’m not talking about those tops. The detail you would see on the wing of a butterfly is being applied to flowy fabrics like chiffon and organza to create some of the most beautiful pieces the runway has seen in a while.
Chanel included some of these pieces in two of their most recent shows; the Spring-Summer Haute Couture 2022, and their general Spring-Summer 2022 Collections. These pieces are eye-catching and show-stopping. Retrofete created a stunning butterfly tube dress that took a different approach to the trend by creating a wing out of sequin detailing. LOVED. I will be sure to add some butterfly pieces to my wardrobe for these early spring months.
Another piece I would like to add to my closet during February is a pair of tiered pants. Once again the sass and spunk these pants add to any outfit is so desirable. Channel your inner Donna from Mama Mia and hit the streets feeling more confident than ever. As you can probably tell I am all about having the loudest and most sassy outfit in the room. One of my favorite aspects of fashion and articles of clothing that I think commonly is overlooked is the movement of pieces. One of my favorite parts of watching runway film is watching how the pieces move as the models walk down the stage. Tiered pants have a flawless movement to them, almost as though they glide across the ground. They are the perfect way to spice up any casual outfit.
The last favorite coming to you during this lovely month of February is a concept. PATTERN ON PATTERN. Deeply controversial, yes I am aware. For years we have been told pattern on pattern is a fashion “no-no”. But I am here to say be bold and be brave and do it! It adds soooo much personality to your look.
If you get nervous to try out this trend, remember that fashion isn’t always about who has on the cutest or most cohesive look in the room, but who has the most interesting and playful look in the room. It’s all about trial and error. You may think you hate this idea.
I urge you to try it! You never know till you try! A great first step is styling your favorite pair of denim on the bottom, with a simple pattern like a striped blouse, and then layer a floral jacket over the top.
